One of the best parties in town this evening was the one along Franklin Street at the Horace Williams House, officially located at 610 Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill, NC. The Horace Williams House is a treasure and this evening, it was the home to the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill’s Fortieth Anniversary celebration with an elegant dinner on the lawn, live music and dancing under the stars, and a well-supported silent auction in the Horace Williams House dining room. The list of those attending was impressive, demonstrating the strong support of the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill from those who have loved Chapel Hill for years – many for more than 40 years! The food was outstanding, catered by Durham Catering Company. Dancing on the lawn went well into the evening with live music provided by Liquid Pleasure. Chapel Hill Service League volunteers assisted in various ways, typical of their spirit and energy. As the celebration and silent auction came to a close, the music faded and attendees made their way home, after another evening of making memories under a beautiful Carolina night sky. Chapel Hill, NC annual Cupcake Festival in Chapel Hill, NC

Never anticipated so much fun during the cupcake contest at the Horace Williams House along Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, NC! But, in fact, my daughter, Kempton, and I signed-up as volunteers working behind the scenes because we know the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill is tops as an organization to support. As members of the Chapel Hill Service League, the sign-up to volunteer was so well organized by the Chapel Hill Service League, it was easy to show-up, slip into our assigned tasks, and enjoy the evening. The annual cupcake competition was well-attended, in spite of the hurricane blowing-in from the east. Young and old attended the event to enjoy the lovely display of cupcakes, to sample the delicious treats, and/ or to enter a favorite cupcake in the competition. The entries came from a wide, wide range of bakers. There were four exquisite cupcake entries from the The Chocolate Door , owned by the sweet couple at 516 West Franklin Street. (I heard the Mayan chocolate treat at the Chocolate Door is fabulous, by the way.) But the endearing aspect of the cupcake competition is the fact that it’s for the young and old, inexperienced and experienced cupcake bakers, and newcomers integrating into the Chapel Hill mix of community pillars. Next year, come on out and enjoy the evening!

Chapel Hill real estate along Franklin Street is gorgeous and the annual Cupcake Festival is an opportunity to enjoy the Horace Williams House and grounds. Over the last few months, I’ve been in Briar Chapel with newcomers buying homes or as a guest during events that are designed to be lots of fun. Life is abuzz! Yesterday I had a blast in Briar Chapel during Wine and Design, a two-hour adventure under the light-hearted instruction of wife-husband duo, Marianne Conti Burt and Craig Burt. I had no idea what to expect when I ventured into this class, but I quickly learned it was like no class I’d ever attended. It was fun, fun, fun, with canvas, paints, paintbrushes, and fantastic food provided by Briar Chapel. At the end of the class, I left with the painting I created and new friendships that were launched during the class.
